The Butter Battle Book by Dr. SeussIllus. in full color.
Dr. Seuss chronicles the feud between the Yooks and the Zooks from slingshots through sophisticated weaponry, until each side has the capacity to destroy the world. The language amuses, the drawings are zesty and humorous, and the demand for this book will be large.-- School Library Journal.
Provocative, packs an allegorical punch. The parade of increasingly elaborate (and ridiculous) armaments makes a telling point.-- Booklist.

The Butter Battle Book
The Butter Battle Book is a rhyming story written by Dr. It was published by Random House on January 12, It is an anti-war story; specifically, a parable about arms races in general, mutually assured destruction and nuclear weapons in particular. This book was written during the Cold War era and reflects the concerns of the time, especially the perceived possibility that all life on Earth could be destroyed in a nuclear war. It can also be seen as a satirical work, with its depiction of a deadly war based on a senseless conflict over something as trivial as a breakfast food. The concept of a war based on toast is similar to the war between Lilliput and Blefuscu in Jonathan Swift 's Gulliver's Travels , which was nominally based on an argument over the correct end to crack an egg once soft-boiled. The Yooks and Zooks live on opposite sides of a long curving wall.

Grandpa then goes back in time to tell his grandson about when he started working for the Zook-Watching Border Patrol. Back then the wall between the two groups was much smaller, but he had a Snick-Berry Switch to keep him safe.
