Horror And The Supernatural In Blake’s 7

I t was 40 years ago this week that my parents sat their seven-year-old son down to watch a new BBC One show about spaceships. By the end of that 45 minutes, Roj Blake, played by Gareth Thomas, had been sentenced to exile, and nearly every other sympathetic character had been murdered by the state. While Roj Blake was the innocent man fighting against the system, the rest of his crew upon the stolen alien spaceship Liberator were bona fide villains and outlaws. In one episode Avon weighs up the pros and cons of leaving most of the crew stranded on a planet below to die while he makes off alone with the ship. Blake, the revolutionary, wanted to bring the whole system crashing down.

Blake, a former resistance leader who had his memories suppressed by the Federation, must now try to hold together his assorted crew of criminals and others. They have control over a very powerful, but mysterious spaceship they call the Liberator. Together they try to bring down the corrupt and tyrannical Federation. Blake and some criminals attempt to seize control of the prison ship london as it passess a space war where an abandoned ship is found.

Blake is asked by two friends, the dissident couple Ravella Gillian Bailey and Richie Alan Butler to meet him near one of the sealed city exits after a demanding abstention from food and drink. Unconvinced, Blake nonetheless accompanies them outside the city walls, since he has been promised that he will hear something important about his family.

#1 - Space Fall

This message will self-destruct in five, four, three…. It has alien species, spaceships, computers, teleportation, and all the other trappings of conventional science fiction. Only one thing left to say — beware of the spoilers! What can be more chilling than the prospect of being brainwashed and having false memories implanted? This is the fate that meets Roj Blake, the former resistance leader reprogrammed by the Federation to become a model citizen.

  1. Life in a domed city of the future is secure and comfortable for Roj Blake until he discovers the nightmare that contracts everything he knows and threatens to end his life on Earth.
