Learn about the attack of the Twin Towers from the police officers and firefighters who responded, the workers who survived, and the engineers who were charged with getting the World Trade Center back up and running. Eight years before September 11th, , terrorists carried out their first attack on the World Trade Center, detonating a truck bomb beneath the Twin Towers. They left the site and detonated the bomb, and the explosion killed six people who were working in the area of the blast. Thousands of people were injured as they evacuated the buildings and descended the dark and smoky staircases, a process that took almost ten hours. There were 9 of us in that elevator at pm on the afternoon of February 26, when all of a sudden the elevator just jolted to a stop….
They received financing from Khalid Sheikh Mohammed , Yousef's uncle. The charges included conspiracy, explosive destruction of property, and interstate transportation of explosives. In November , two more were convicted: Ramzi Yousef, the mastermind behind the bombings, and Eyad Ismoil , who drove the truck carrying the bomb. Ramzi Yousef spent time at an al-Qaeda training camp in Afghanistan ,  before beginning in to plan a bombing attack within the United States. Yousef arrived illegally in the United States on September 1, , traveling with Ahmed Ajaj from Pakistan, though both sat apart on the flight and acted as though they were traveling separately. Ajaj tried to enter with a forged Swedish passport, though it had been altered and thus raised suspicions among INS officials at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
The families urged people to understand its legacy. Victims' families, survivors, first responders and others marked the bombing's 25th anniversary on what is now the Sept. They observed a silent moment, read victims' names, laid roses on the memorial and reflected on an explosion that became a telling signal of terrorists' aims. And we are sorry. It injured more than 1, and forced an estimated 50, to flee the trade center's twin towers in a scene of smoke, fear and confusion that would be mirrored and magnified on Sept.
