Why Angelina Jolie is not my friend: Winona Ryder
I absolutely love Lisa. As someone diagnosed as borderline I often can relate to Lisa more than I can Susanna especially when I'm in a manic episode. Thank you for writing this. Women who are insane, scorned, vengeful, or just not quite all there tend to be my favorites. There are no fewer than 5 on this list, depending on who you ask. However, the Crazy Bitch that tops them all is definitely Lisa Rowe, a reckless young sociopath who delights in chaos, disorder, and the power she has over others. As an avid fan of the book and the film, for very different reasons, I feel that I understand Lisa better than someone who has only watched the movie.

Lisa Rowe is the main antagonist in the psychological drama film, Girl Interrupted. She has been in the institution since she was twelve and has escaped several times over her eight year captivity but is always caught and is brought back eventually. After Susanna Kaysen's arrival at the psyche ward, she forms a bond with the newest member of the ward and begins teaching her the same rebellious, egotistical, and obstreperous acts that she does herself including how to act out against other doctors, rejecting the medications meant for treating her psychological disorders and sadistically abuse the fellow mental patients for amusement some of which value Lisa as their "leader" but when Susanna comes close to being discharged from the hospital due to her progress, Lisa then shows her true colors as she feels threatened by this and decides to take control of the situation and take back her power by stealing Susanna's journal and turn her friends against her. She was portrayed by Angelina Jolie who also portrayed Lola and Maleficent in the film of the same name. Lisa is one of the many mental patients in the psyche ward, and is extremely obstreperous, cold-hearted, rebellious, cocky, and charismatic.
The year-old star insisted on casting the then-unknown actress as sociopath Lisa Rowe in movie Girl, Interrupted in which Ryder starred and also served as the executive producer - and thought they would get along well. However, Jolie who won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for her performance in the movie - insisted on maintaining a distance from her. Ryder said: "I remember thinking, 'Oh we're going to turn out to be great friends. Despite not becoming friends, Ryder is delighted at the way Jolie has overcome her personal problems to carve out a successful career. Ryder added: "What she's accomplished after the film in terms of humanitarian stuff, I'm just really happy she did that. I remember in the press junket for Girl, Interrupted she would just be so open about her problems and then I would come in and everyone would think I was so boring.
