The Good Fairies of New York by Martin Millar

Dinnie, an overweight enemy of humanity, was the worst violinist in New York, but was practicing gamely when two cute little fairies stumbled through his fourth-floor window and vomited on the carpet...

When a pair of fugitive Scottish thistle fairies end up transplanted to Manhattan by mistake, both the Big Apple and the Little People have a lot of adjusting to do. Heather and Morag just want to start the first radical fairy punk rock band, but first they’ll have make a match between two highly unlikely sweethearts, start a street brawl between rival gangs of Italian, Chinese, and African fairies, help the ghost of a dead rocker track down his lost guitar, reclaim a rare triple-bloomed Welsh poppy from a bag lady with delusions of grandeur, disrupt a local community performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and somehow manage to stay sober enough to save all of New York from an invasion of evil Cornish fairies.

If they can stop feuding with each other, that is.

What Do Fairies Eat?

My friend, Coibhidh, would make Fairy Butter with egg yolks and butter. I can't remember if it was also sweetened I've also found some that have a strong preference for alcohol, and others that like just pure water that last is usually land spirits though , and I've never had any that weren't okay with apples if I had them to give. Kipling mentions setting aside "the Good Piece" for the Fair Folk in the chapter of Puck of Pook's Hill where Puck comes to the barn disguised as a workman. This is a small chunk of whatever you happen to be eating. I wonder if the "good" part of the appellation implies that it is decent-sized, or that it contains the essence of the food. I imagine it referred to leaving it for the good people, na daoine maithe in Irish, na daoine math in Scots Gaelic.

Different types of faries eat different types of things. Below are what the different faries eat. My eight year old fairy expert says they eat lots of things. They LOVE sugar, honey and all wild berries. They still like store bought berries. Fairies drink mostly milk and consider spilled mik precious.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. You must spend a lot of time in your backyard studying them to have such wisdom in the Faerie's diet.

In ancient Ireland, the offerings left out for our fae friends were usually a bowl of milk or freshly churned butter. As time moved on, the garden fairies began to experience growth in eating sweets and cakes, because of their plentiful and boundless appetites. We are lucky that there are plenty of choices when it comes to miniature accessories that provide options for beverages and food.

It is a beautiful cool evening and you are walking along the way when you hear the peculiar jangling of fairy music and you turn to see, to your amazement, a group of twenty fairies dancing in a circle around a large toadstool. What do you do? Well, it used to be said that it was bad luck to see the fairies before they saw you. You should probably then take a deep breath, enjoy the sight and walk quickly on…. Of course, fairies may take it upon themselves to come into your life and your house.

According to fairy folklore experts, fairies prefer natural foods, with pixie pears and mallow fruits being their favorites. Fairies love foods that are sweet and are prepared with saffron. Among fairies' favorite foods are milk with honey, plain milk, sweet butter and honey cakes. The same fairy folklore experts say that if these fairy foods are left outside the kitchen, the fairies will help themselves to it. Although it will seem that the food is untouched, fairies may have already feasted on it or were nourished with the essence of the food.

Didn't find the answer you were looking for? Ask a Question. Robin Burden answered. As you can imagine, a fairy's diet consists mainly of sweet things such as cakes, cookies, candy, Turkish Delight, and other sugary treats. The only exception to this rule is the Tooth Fairy, who prefers eating healthier things like apples and raisins because she despises sugar and the effects it has on humans' teeth.
