I am in my 6th week on the Atkins and am so happy to have lost 19lbs so far still 2. I haven't found it any hardship 'except' I do sooooo love wine of which I have completely done without! However, with Xmas upon us I have a couple of prearranged meals out and as much as I know on phase 1 alcohol Is not permitted, I don't think it's being realistic that I won't drink on these type of occasions. Do I need to accept that this is going to be my lifestyle now, not being able to drink again as I'll put on weight??

The reason we are all so keen to know whether or not alcohol is allowed on the Atkins diet is a debate for another day! So why is alcohol one of those things that we are told not to consume while following a diet and are you allowed to drink alcohol while following the Atkins nutritional lifestyle? On Induction phase 1 alcohol is not allowed. But Induction is only for two weeks. The reason alcohol is restricted on a low carb diet, especially at the start is, when ingested into the body it is metabolized before the fat in your body, so in that case alcohol is treated from the bodies perspective like a macro-nutrient. This applies to almost all spirit alcohol and some wines.

Understanding the Atkins 40 Diet in full is important before beginning. Learn the basics to start your weight loss journey with us today. The Atkins Diet is designed to "flip the body's metabolic switch" from burning carbs to burning fat. Graduated carb introduction limits blood sugar and insulin spikes, which cause hunger and cravings, and result in overeating and weight gain. We do not recommend consumption of added sugar on Atkins 40, as it has an immediate impact on blood sugar and offers little nutritional benefit compared to other foods allowed in the daily 40g Net Carb intake. Those who chose the Atkins 40 plan will use the acceptable foods lists from the Atkins 20 plan from all four phases.

Low-carb diets have recently become increasingly popular as an effective way to lose weight and improve health. They typically involve cutting out high-carb foods like refined grains, fruits, starchy vegetables and legumes and instead focus on healthy fats and proteins. However, many people are uncertain about whether alcohol can be consumed on a low-carb diet, and recommendations on the subject can be conflicting. Many types of alcohol are high in carbohydrates — some packing in more carbs per serving than soft drinks, sweets and desserts. For example, beer typically has a high carb content, as starch is one of its primary ingredients. Mixed drinks are also typically high in carbs due to ingredients like sugar, juice and other high-carb mixers added to improve flavor. Alcohol is rich in empty calories, meaning that it contains many calories without vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients that your body needs.
